Without A Family
Without A Family
Beginning with its title, this novel makes the family a value in and out of itself, and the search for the mother an essential part of soul searching. It adopts a different approach to the typical path towards maturity that begins within a family and ends when one distances themselves from it and cuts the “umbilical cord” as a sign of achieving personal maturity. However, Rémi’s path begins with separation and ends with a family reunion, with a series of concurrent trials that ultimately lead to the missing familial paradise… trials based on loss, not unlike the first moment of separation, as though the author wishes to say that self-evolvement and emotional and psychological maturity cannot be attained without loss.
